From the Dean's Desk

Dear Live Oaks Families,

As we prepare for another exciting school year, I want to extend a warm welcome to all of our students and families both new and returning. We are looking forward to seeing everyone soon and beginning what promises to be a fantastic year of learning, growth, and success!

Thank you to everyone who tuned in to our YouTube Live Back-to-School event last week. We appreciated your participation and thoughtful questions. Based on many of the questions that were asked, we have updated and added more information to our school website toward the bottom under Campus Updates. The website and weekly newsletters should be your primary source for back-to-school information, including schedules, procedures, forms, and important updates.

If you cannot find the answer you are looking for on the website, please do not hesitate to call the school office. Our team is happy to help and wants to ensure you have the information you need.

We also invite all students and families to attend Schedule Pick-Up on:

Thursday, August 13
4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

This is a great opportunity to pick up schedules, complete paperwork, drop off medication, connect with staff, and get ready for the first days of school.

Please note these important start dates:

  • Juniors report on Tuesday, August 18
  • All students report on Wednesday, August 19

One of the most important tasks families can complete before school begins is FinalForms. It is imperative that parents and guardians complete all required FinalForms information as soon as possible. We cannot issue student laptops or school email accounts until parent portions of FinalForms have been completed.

Students will complete their portion of FinalForms with our staff on the first day of school, but they can only do so after the parent/guardian sections have been submitted.

Thank you for your partnership and support. We are excited to welcome our students back and start another incredible school year together. Enjoy the rest of your summer, and we look forward to seeing you at Schedule Pick-Up on August 13!

I can't wait to have our students back!

Dr. Amy Crouse
Dean of Instruction

💻 Live Oaks Student Accounts 💻

Live Oaks operates independently from our affiliated partner schools. Parents and students will need to create new, campus-specific accounts for the following platforms:

  • Final Forms: Used for important back-to-school documents. Parents will receive a separate email containing registration instructions. Student Signatures: Parents complete their portion online now. Students will sign their required forms on the first day of school after receiving their school-issued laptop.
  • ProgressBook & Schoology: Used to track grades (ProgressBook) and assignments (Schoology). Login details will be sent to parents at the beginning of the school year.
  • ParentSquare: Used for campus news, events, and essential communications. An invitation link to join Live Oaks ParentSquare will be emailed to you.
  • PaySchools Central: Used to manage cafeteria balances and school lunch accounts.

🥪 School Lunch & PaySchools Accounts

Great Oaks provides affordable, nutritious breakfast and lunch options every day. Please note that the Live Oaks campus operates a completely cashless cafeteria.

Free and reduced-price meals are available for qualifying students.

Meal Pricing

  • Breakfast: $1.55/Reduced $.30
  • Lunch: $3.95/Reduced $.40

How to Set Up Your Account & Apply for Benefits

  1. To set up your student's lunch account, visit PaySchools Central and click "Register."
  2. You can apply for the Free or Reduced Lunch program directly through PaySchools after your account is registered.

Important Registration Note: You cannot use the same email address that is already associated with your home high school's PaySchools account. Please use an alternate email.

👔 Uniforms, Fees, and Supplies 👔

  • Returning Seniors: Please note that returning seniors will wear the same uniforms from last year.
  • School Uniform Requirements: All students are required to wear their specific career lab uniforms every single day. Uniform requirements for Juniors can be found HERE
  • School Fees: There are no school fees at Live Oaks.
  • Supply Lists: We do not provide a traditional supply list. We simply ask that students arrive with basic school supplies (notebooks, binders, pens/pencils) for their academic classes.

🚌 Transportation & Shuttles 🚌

Your student's affiliated school provides bus transportation to and from Live Oaks each day we are in session. For specific route details, timing, or questions, please contact your home district's transportation department:

📝 Campus Policies & Expectations 📝

📋Attendance & Early Dismissal

Please review the complete Attendance Policy (Policy 5200) in the Great Oaks Student Handbook for rules regarding excused and unexcused absences.

  • Reporting Absences: Follow standard reporting procedures via phone, email or text message.
  • Early Dismissals: Follow the same procedure as reporting an absence if your student needs to leave before 2:18 PM. Only parents/legal guardians listed on the Emergency Medical Form may sign a student out.
  • Student-Athletes: If a student requires early dismissal for an affiliated school sport, they must submit a sports early release form signed by their coach, parent, and teacher.
  • Late Arrival & Job Placement: Students with pre-approved late arrival or job placement schedules must sign in and out at the office daily to ensure accurate attendance tracking.

❄️Inclement Weather Updates

Live Oaks does not always close when your home high school closes.

  • Please follow your home high school's delay or closure decisions regarding local bus transportation.
  • If your home school closes but Live Oaks remains open, you are expected to check in with your instructors to stay on top of daily assignments.
  • Live Oaks specific emergency closures will be communicated via automated phone calls, emails, and alerts posted on www.greatoaks.com.

🚗 Student Parking

Parking permit applications must be completed and submitted via FinalForms.

To ensure safety, student drivers must strictly adhere to the following rules:
  • Park only in designated student parking spaces. Parking is permitted after 7:30 AM.
  • Upon arrival, head straight into the school building; loitering in vehicles or the parking lot is prohibited.
  • Drive safely, follow posted traffic rules, and keep noise to a minimum.
  • Your Live Oaks parking permit must be clearly displayed in your vehicle at all times.
  • Students do not have access to the parking lot during the school day.
  • Please note: School officials reserve the right to search vehicles on school property if there is reasonable suspicion of weapons or controlled substances.

👪 Parent Drop-off and Pick-up

  • Morning Drop-off: Please use the Main Entrance located at the front of the building.
  • Afternoon Pick-up: Pick-up takes place on the sidewalk next to the playground, near the staff parking lot. Students must wait on the sidewalk until their ride arrives; for safety reasons, students are not permitted to walk through the active parking lot.

📱Personal Device Policy

In alignment with state requirements, the use of personal communication devices is strictly prohibited during the school day. Cell phones must be turned off or silenced and kept completely out of sight. All personal devices must be stored securely in your child’s backpack or locker throughout the day.

⚠️HB8 Legislation: Parent Notification Policy

In accordance with HB8, any student request for a gender identity accommodation (e.g., name or pronoun changes) must be shared with school administrators, who are required to notify parents/guardians.

  • How to streamline the process: If you approve of your student's accommodation request, sending a quick email to Dr. Crouse or your student's school counselor allows us to update our records efficiently.
  • Without prior confirmation, administrators will contact parents individually whenever a request occurs to work through the next steps together.

🎓 Academics & Credentials 🎓

🏫College Credit Plus (CCP)

The College Credit Plus program allows eligible students in grades 7–12 to earn college credits and high school credits simultaneously. To learn more about application criteria, funding, and program details, please contact your assigned campus counselor.

📄Transcripts & Diplomas

Live Oaks operates as an independent school; your affiliated home high school remains the official school of record for your academic transcripts and final diploma. All credits earned at Live Oaks are automatically transferred directly to your home high school’s system to guarantee a unified academic transcript.
