Application FAQ
-
All students who are interested in attending Great Oaks must apply online at apply.greatoaks.com
Students can apply at any time once the application window opens in November. First round consideration window closes in early February. We highly encourage students to apply during this time for the best chance of being accepted into their first-choice program.
Helpful Information:
-
Over-enrolled programs (programs that have more applicants than seats) will use a lottery system.
-
Out-of-district students who do not reside within our affiliated districts will not be eligible for acceptance until June 1.
-
Great Oaks is not a first-to-apply, first-accepted district. You can apply at any time between November & February to be eligible for first-round consideration.
-
Applications are accepted until the school year begins; however, many programs reach capacity early in the application process. Students who apply for a full program will be placed on a waiting list.
-
Many of our programs fill up very quickly, meaning some students do not get accepted; some may be offered their second-choice program, and some are placed on waiting lists.

Students can apply at any time. Ideally, you should submit your application before the February deadline for the best chance at being placed in your first-choice program. If the deadline has passed, still apply! There is still a possibility of being accepted into a program.
After we receive your application, we will request your transcript covering 9th grade through the present. If a program receives more applications than available spots, we will use a lottery system to ensure fair placement. Only students who applied before the deadline will be included in the lottery.
-
After applying, students and parents will receive a confirmation email. Students are notified of their application status in late March through US postal mail and are able to log on to the application site to see their status after letters are mailed.
-
Great Oaks began utilizing a lottery for all oversubscribed programs in 2020. A lottery-style process ensures fair opportunities for all eligible applicants who hope to participate in a program at Great Oaks.
Our randomized admission approach helps ensure that all students living within our Career-Technical Planning District (CTPD) have a fair and balanced chance of being admitted to the career tech program they’re most interested in.
We are committed to opening doors rather than creating barriers, giving as many students as possible the opportunity to participate in career technical education. It’s a privilege to watch our students grow—building confidence, developing new skills, and discovering their strengths through practical, engaging, real-world learning. We look forward to what lies ahead and remain dedicated to fostering an environment that is inclusive, equitable, and supportive in every aspect of our work.
-
Students will be selected through a lottery process (for programs where more credit-ready applications have been received than spots in the program). If not selected through the lottery for their first choice, they will be accepted into their second choice if space is available. A student may remain on a wait list based on their lottery number in the event that space becomes available in their first-choice program.
-
Any student who applies within our priority application window and has met our "credit-ready" criteria is given the same consideration.
Any student who applies after the first-round application window will be considered for programs that are not at capacity.
-
Many of our programs fill up very quickly, meaning some students do not get accepted.
Unfortunately, we cannot accept all "credit-ready" students who apply. Students who do not get into their program will be placed into their second-choice program or on a waitlist. If someone releases their spot, we offer the open spot to the next student on the waitlist.
-
If you are placed on a waitlist, you still have the chance to be accepted!
Students who do not get into their first-choice program will be placed on a waitlist in order of their application lottery number. If someone releases their spot, we will move down the list to the student next on the waitlist. If a student was accepted into their second-choice program, but their spot opens in their first-choice program, we will contact them to see which program they want to be placed in.
-
Where a student resides is the main factor for acceptance.
Attendance, discipline, etc., are NOT considered for acceptance. The only consideration is credit readiness and residency. We give priority to students who reside in our Career Tech Planning District (CTPD).
Our CTPD includes our partner school districts' residential bounds. Our partner districts can be found on our District's website here. Students do not have to be attending these schools (they can be homeschooled, in online, or private school) but must reside in the district for priority status.
Please know that even students who have priority based on residency may not get a spot; placement is still done by random lottery for programs in which we have more applications than seats. We will place students who reside outside of our CTPD into open programs after June 1st.
