12/4/2025 Diamond Oaks Weekly Update

Posted Date: 12/04/25 (07:00 PM)

Good Evening Diamond Oaks Families, Students, and Staff Members,

We hope everyone enjoyed a restful Thanksgiving break and is ready to dive back into learning. Winter has made an early appearance with a crisp cold snap, reminding us that the season is truly here. With only two weeks left in the second quarter, it’s full steam ahead! Students are hard at work with state and credentialing assessments, and we’re focused on finishing strong before Winter Break begins on December 22. Let’s make these weeks count!

______________________________________________________________________

End Of Course Testing: Diamond’s Fall testing window for end-of-course (EOC) assessments has opened and testing is under way.  The window will close January 6, 2025.  There are six EOC assessments: Algebra I, Geometry, English Language Arts II, Biology, Government, and U.S. History.  Each student needs to take all the latter EOC assessments once they have completed the associated course.  In the event students did not pass the English Language Arts II or Algebra I assessments with a 684 or higher, students must attempt the assessment once more.  It is important that students show up on their assigned date, time, and location.

JROTC Leadership and Academic Bowl (JLAB) Team: The JLAB is a nationally recognized academic competition created exclusively for JROTC cadets. By participating in the JLAB, cadets learn the values of leadership, academic competition, and college opportunity. The JLAB Team starts with an on-line Level I challenge versus all the JROTC schools in our region (7th Brigade) which consists of Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee. The Diamond Oaks Leadership Team has advanced to the second round!

The team consists of:

Tristen Hogeback, Jr, Harrison, AUTTC1, Team Captain

Aidan Medel, Jr, Finneytown, WELD1B

Elijah Cole-Mauer, Jr, Oak Hills, AVN1

Angela Williams, Jr, Oak Hills, ELM1

Charlotte Shaffer, Jr, Harrison, IT1

Food Drive: To support families during this difficult time, Diamond Oaks students and staff are sponsoring a food drive. We are collecting nonperishable items such as canned vegetables, pasta, rice, cereal, peanut butter, and boxed meals. Bags will be distributed weekly, and collections will continue through December 19. If your family needs assistance, please contact your student’s school counselor. If you are able to contribute, please send nonperishable items with your student.

Additionally, Kroger in Dent will support our drive by setting up a table in their main lobby on Friday, December 5, to collect items from customers. If you live or shop in the area, please help spread the word. Thank you!

URGENT: VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR PHLEBOTOMY CERTIFICATIONS

ATTENTION STUDENTS - Get ready to roll up those sleeves—our seniors are wrapping up their phlebotomy sticks for certification testing! All the action happens in Room 176, the Health Tech Lab, where future phlebotomists are sharpening their skills.

We’re taking brave volunteers from December 4th–11th during the 6th, 7th, and 8th bells (12:30-2:00). Come help our seniors succeed—and maybe earn bragging rights as the coolest volunteer of the day! Scan the QR code on the attached flyer or click this link to sign up. Be sure to sign in with your Great Oaks account.

If you haven’t filled out a consent form yet, no worries! We have attached it to this announcement or you can stop by Ms. Scott's Health Tech room to pick up a paper copy. If you’re under 18, you’ll need a parent’s signature.

ATTENTION parents/guardians/neighbors of the Diamond community - Would you like to volunteer? Contact Ms. Scott to learn more! scott.tabitha@greatoaks.com

Aviation Maintenance Lab Focus (Mr. Alatis, Aviation Instructor): Our Aviation Maintenance juniors have been doing a remarkable job learning how to fabricate fluid lines and hoses. I am impressed with the attention to detail and care of instructions they display in the lab. The juniors have learned how to measure, cut & prepare tubing; hand flare aluminum tubing, both single and double flares; the different processes & techniques to bend; and the proper hardware to select according to the application. I am especially impressed by the skill Scott Ingles displayed in the Rigid Tube Culmination Lab. Given only one length of tube and a small, divided box with two connections, the assignment was to select appropriate fittings, measure, cut, bend, and flare (using both techniques learned) the tube to fit precisely in the confine space. Scott’s performance and attention to detail amazed me. Additionally, he went above and beyond to assist other students in completing their labs.

Our Aviation Maintenance Seniors are about two thirds of the way through their Composite Wingtip Lab. The students are creating their own wing tips from scratch. So far, they have displayed their skills with a hot knife to cut/form a foam wing, designed by hand and cut winglets, applied appropriate techniques to clean it up in preparation for wet layups (one of the process of fiber glassing the structures), executed wet layup and vacuum presses, and now are marrying up the two pieces to form one smooth wingtip. Their next phase this week is creating a fillet joint and finally painting their complete winglet. The senior spotlight goes to Graham Leurck. Graham initially made some errors in cutting his winglet which would have completely discouraged others. However, Graham showed great dedication & grit by applying his new knowledge to properly repair his wing. When it came time for the seniors to fabricate their winglets, Graham not only finished his first but produced the best wiglet of the class by far. He displayed not only the knowledge, but the understanding of practical applications sought after in a good aviation mechanic.
