Diamond Oaks Weekly Update, 10/30/2025

Posted Date: 10/30/25 (7:00 PM)

Hello Diamond Oaks Students and Families,

This past week has been a whirlwind of leadership, career exploration, crucial training, and national recognition for our students and staff.  Our dedicated Student Council members gained valuable insights and inspiration at the Anthony Munoz Leadership Field Trip.  Future medical professionals in our Surgical Technology program expertly represented Diamond Oaks at a specialized Job and Career Fair for medical programs held at The Great Wolf Lodge. Our commitment to safety was further strengthened as staff participated in vital training on "Stop the Bleed" and De-escalation techniques. Diamond's JROTC cadets continued to shine, presenting the Colors at the National Health Science Conference in Cincinnati, where Annabella Ventus and Angela Williams, both juniors in the Equine program, also sang the National Anthem—a moment of true pride! Our cadets also demonstrated their dedication and grit by participating in the demanding Raiders event at Fort Knox.  We value our partnership with you, and last week's parent-teacher conferences provided an excellent opportunity for our community to connect and support student success. Looking ahead, construction has officially begun on the space for Diamond's highly anticipated new Aviation Exploration program!

We are thrilled to share these highlights and offer the below updates:

ASVAB Testing: students, if you are interested in taking the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB), here is the link to signup. The ASVAB Career Exploration Program (CEP) is a complete career planning program. Students are given the opportunity to take the ASVAB at no cost and no commitment to military service. The ASVAB CEP also provides an interest assessment and planning tools to help young adults explore career field entry requirements and various career paths, both military and civilian.  Please know, you are not required to pursue enlistment if you decide to test.  The test will be offered on Wednesday, November 5 at 7:55 AM in the Community Room.  Please bring your fully charged laptop with you. Additionally, initial results will be ready on Monday, November 17.  The best place to start your preparation: https://www.officialasvab.com/

NKU Representative: NKU will have a representative from admissions visit our campus during lunch on November 6.

Podcast: our Podcast officially has a name! With the help of our students, we are officially called ‘The Diamond Dialogue’. Episode 3 is dropping soon. We ran into some technical difficulties and appreciate your patience as we work through them! We're almost there. Can't wait for you to take our tour and meet our senior students of the month! Additionally, our next meeting will be this Monday, November 3rd during 3rd bell. All students are welcome to join us!

School Closings and Days Off: As the weather gets colder and has the holiday season approaches, it is important to understand procedures and expectations.  First, students will follow Diamond Oaks’ calendar (attached) for scheduled holidays and days off, not their homeschool calendars.   Buses will run even if students’ homeschools are not in session unless it is a school delay or calamity day.  In the case of delays or cancellations, please see the attached flyer for guidance.  Diamond will announce delays, remote learning, and cancelations via text, website, ParentSquare, all-calls, and local media outlets.

Welding Lab Focus: Our Welding Lab instructors are Leamon Wilson and Luke Rogers.   They wrote the following for the Welding Lab focus:

Our Welding juniors have been learning how to weld with SMAW and are almost through three of the four positions. These tasks include proper electrode selection, maintaining correct arc length, controlling travel speed, achieving proper penetration, and implementing welding safety procedures. The juniors have completed their first project of welding a cube with oxy fuel. All juniors have earned their OSHA-10 certification. As the semester progresses, students will begin working on all other welding processes.
This week’s spotlight recognizes our outstanding junior welding students for their exceptional performance in the Vertical 7018 Weave Bead Welding Competition.

  • Abby Bundy — 1st Place Winner
  • William Adamson — Tied for 2nd Place
  • Hailey Shoemaker — Tied for 2nd Place

These students have demonstrated strong technical skills, focus, and dedication to their craft. Congratulations on your achievements!

Our Welding seniors have been refining a wide range of welding processes and techniques. Throughout the first quarter, they have further developed existing skills in reading welding symbols, interpreting blueprints, performing visual weld inspections, and conducting bend tests. Currently, seniors are earning their AWS D1.1 Flux Core certification, demonstrating their proficiency in this important welding standard. Next week, they will be working towards forklift certification to further expand their skill set and workplace readiness.
As the semester progresses, students will begin exploring advanced fabrication methods and specialized welding applications to further enhance their expertise. We are also proud to share that thirteen of our seniors are currently participating in job placements at local welding shops, gaining real-world industry experience.

This week’s spotlight features Camerin Farris, a senior in the Welding program who is currently employed at Modern Sheet Metal. Camerin has demonstrated outstanding commitment and reliability, maintaining perfect attendance while attending Diamond Oaks. His dedication to both his education and his work exemplifies the professionalism and work ethic expected in the welding industry.

Government Shutdown: Due to the government shutdown, many students and their families are at risk of not receiving their SNAP benefits beginning 11.1.2025 if the shutdown continues. Ohio is still processing new applications and recertifications as of right now. Ohio has been informed by its SNAP benefits card (EBT) vendor that the USDA has confirmed SNAP recipients will be able to access their existing benefits (issued prior to 11.1.2025) after October 31. Therefore, while the issuance of November benefits may be impacted if a federal shutdown continues- As it stands now, families should be able to access any benefits issued prior to 11.1.2025. Information is being updated regularly on the ODJFS website here: 2025 Federal Government Shutdown | Job and Family Services and here: Ohio Benefits Self Service Portal | Ohio Benefits Self Service Portal Core.
