Safety tip:

Why schools hold emergency drills

Several times a year, we hold fire drills and shelter-in-place or lockdown drills.  We do this for several reasons:  First, we do it because Ohio law requires it.  More importantly, though, we hold drills because we want to make sure that those responsible for your teenager’s safety are prepared for any emergency.  Every Great Oaks associate has a job to do during a drill, whether it’s keeping track of a group of students, making sure everyone is out of the building or where they should be in a crisis, or ensuring that the building is secure.  We have to be able to react quickly and professionally, and practicing our roles helps to make sure we can do that.  We also want to make sure that students know what to do; if an emergency ever does happen here on our campus, students will be safer when they can act calmly and knowledgeably.
